Mundane moments don’t have to be mundane. Those are often the ones that are the prettiest to us. Looking through albums and all the simplest moments are the ones I love and so happy to remember.
Images of my grandad chatting to us, kids at birthday parties running with balloons, or simple photos of my parents just sitting on the sofa, knowing their houses were just as strewn with toys as mine is now.
No one takes images (and prints) them these days, it’s all a little too instagram perfect.
It’s not all about happy smiles and posing for the camera, those are nice too… but you have to have those completely real moments. The messy, the mundane, the boring.
I have this box of old photographs I bought at an auction and my favorites are happy couples cleaning cars together, kids playing in gardens and all the unposed shots crammed into tiny envelopes.
We had looked into getting a mud kitchen for the summer, Emily is one of those kids who doesn’t like to get dirty, so it’s still on the ‘maybe’ list.
Lucy, surprise surprise, was the first in there and had to be dragged away. Another surprise… she was the ONLY one who needed a bath. She was out in her white unicorn onesie, with a handful of mud and a spoonful in her mouth before I even had a chance to change her.
Mud counts as one of your 5 a day, right?
We filled one half of our old sand & water tray with mud and the other with bubbly water.
Popped in a few farm animals, sponges and spoons and there was a whole hour of giggles and splashing.
It’s sold us on the mud kitchen idea and will be a great little garden treat for the summer!
We loved it!
Have you got a favorite mundane moment?
