Sometimes, right in the middle of chaos you need a little bit of goodness.  Something to help you distract yourself and just let you escape.  The week my Dad passed away was just hectic.  I had a house full of paperwork (18 different piles), appointments and meetings with the funeral director.  I was adulating to the fullest and just wanted it all to be over.

So, in the middle of it all, we drove to Glencoe.  3 hours in the car with 4 kids and a bag of snacks.  Now, I’ve lived in the UK (mainly Scotland) for over 30 years and I can honestly say, hands down… I have NEVER seen anything so beautiful in all my life.  It’s dreamy, its romantic and it’s like you’ve just stepped into the most perfect panting.

I met Rachel Vanoven a few years ago.  I stalked her Facebook for a while and somehow managed to convince her and Erin Tole to come visit Scotland and I’d host their workshop.  And they said yes.  I had a total fan girl moment and couldn’t believe that I was getting to meet them.  So, I did what any rational person does when meeting someone they admire…. I turned up dressed like a carrot.  I did a little dance, Rachel laughed and the rest is history.

I’m used to being behind the camera, following the kids round and getting to lurk around in the background.  I have NO idea how to be infront of one, but Rachel asked if she could shoot & film us for her new Collective and you can’t say no to that.  Her work is delightful!  We suited and booted up and headed to meet her in the Highlands.

I cannot wait to see the shots, I’ve never felt so comfortable in front of a camera AND a video camera at the same time.  The kids had the best time running up and down the hills, picking flowers and spotting bugs.  We even got to bring Josie, Rachel’s youngest back with us for a sleepover.  It was just the most perfect little day break we could have asked for and happened to be our 11th wedding anniversary too.
Now I want to see more, I want to see the entire UK, and then head further.  The kids are still so young that its nothing but the most perfect time and would be silly not to use it better.  They are so good at traveling and are desperate to camp too… so we might be onto something with that.
