Making a rented home yours | Brightening up interiors

I love kids interiors.  I have a whole Pinterest board devoted to kids rooms that one day I hope mine will look.  A lovely house, painted white, wooden floors, bursting with colours through gorgeous prints and vintage bedding.  But, we currently live in a rented house, with magnolia walls, pine fire surrounds and a huge lack of natural light.  It can get more than a little frustrating.

The twins moved into the ‘big’ room and started to share with Ruby.  2 cribs, a cabin bed & enough toys to fill a shop…. it was getting a little cramped.  Poor Ruby loved the company and didn’t want to move to the attic room.  She cried, pleaded and eventually we got bunk beds and put the cabin bed in the spare room for later.

Our lovely kids room resembled baby play group.  Only a few weeks before christmas… where on earth we were going to put all the toys that were coming, I had NO idea.

I’m not one for entering competitions, I never win them.  I’m a bit of a sore loser sometimes.
But, one of my favorite kid companies The Great little Trading Company ran a competition on twitter.  Share a GLTC christmas wish and 3 lucky winners would win.  How can you say no to that?  And when you can’t get a bigger house, you get better STORAGE.
So, my wish was storage.  As much as I would have loved a teepee, a new rug and some of the gorgeous bedding, storage was so important!

I WON!

I think I squealed out loud and did a little dance.  Their whole company is based on family and beautiful design.  We already owned the gorgeous Doll House storage unit and the play kitchen and I couldn’t wait to add some beautifully designed storage into the room.

Such easy furniture to build and the stunning finish hands down beats any flat pack company out there.  Delighted is an understatement.  The twins can find their toys easily and Ruby can pop her most precious things on higher shelfs and it makes the room look just beautiful.  Not to mention a nice backdrop to most of our instagram images too!

We also had a lovely package from The Gro Company arrive.  What a lucky week indeed.  They were kind enough to send us a Gro Clock, just in time for Ruby starting school and teaching the twins to ‘stay in bed’.
Being a fan of the Gro Egg already we couldn’t wait to give it a go.

Such an easy little clock to set up.  Ruby couldn’t wait to use the alarm function for school!  It has handy little stars that appear on the sun face throughout the day, with each new star its a little closer to bedtime.  You can set your own daylight hours, letting the little ones know when its morning and when they can get out of bed.  And surprisingly, they listen to the clock!  There was no 6am wake up call on the first morning.

It’s a great little addition to the bedroom, and it makes her feel like a proper grown up girl when she gets to turn off the alarm each day!

The kids room is by no means finished.  Like I said, its difficult to put your own stamp on a rented property.  We are hoping in the near future we are in more of a position to buy something that fits us better as a family, 2 bedrooms and soon, 4 kids is going to be a squeeze!  But for now, we’ll pin and save all those perfect little nooks on Pinterest!
